Recommendations and Tips
We recommend routine maintenance on all vehicles to avoid unforeseen failures.
- Your engine oil and filter be should be changed every 3000 miles. When we change the oil on your vehicle, we will visually inspect the chassis, brakes, and under the hood.
- It is important to have your vehicle looked at on a periodic basis. When we do an oil change (LOF), we make sure that the running condition of your car appears satisfactory.
- Most vehicles now use timing belts instead of timing chains. Timing belts should be replaced every 60,000 miles on most cars to avoid severe engine damage.
It is difficult for us to tell if your timing belt has been replaced as suggested by the original car manufacturer. We suggest keeping proper records of all maintenance performed on your vehicle.
"Tune-Ups"
- Tune-ups are a thing of the past. If your car was manufactured after 1980, it should have maintenance at recommended intervals; major services generally being completed at 30,000 mile intervals.
- This maintenance should be performed regardless of whether or not your car is running properly. This is normal preventative maintenance: you are preventing a breakdown from occurring; you are increasing the life of your vehicle. STAR follows original equipment manufacturers (OEM) maintenance guidelines when performing all services.
- Performance or drivability problems may not be solved by a 30K service or "Tune-Up". We suggest you describe the specific problem; allow us to suggest a solution.
- Often times a customer requests a "Tune-Up". We generally ask additional questions. Our first question is "Why". If the answer is other than "It has been 30,000 miles since my last service", we may recommend a different solution to you to fix the problem.
